What’s the difference between salary sacrifice and personal leasing?

Salary sacrifice is a way of getting a shiny new EV saving up to 40%. The payments come out before tax, so your taxable income drops and you pay less in Income Tax and National Insurance.

In other words: money that would usually disappear to HMRC goes towards your new wheels instead.

Personal leasing explained

Personal leasing is more like a long-term rental but without the nice tax perks. 

You’ll need an upfront deposit, plus monthly payments, and at the end you hand the car back or, if allowed, pay a big lump sum to keep it. No tax savings, no extras rolled in… just a regular lease.

Both costings are based on 40 year old, 40% taxpayer taking out a 48 month lease with 5k miles per year. Personal lease rentals and other items are estimated averages from third party sources and will vary by driver and location. Insurance is usually the biggest variable.
