How does charging an EV at home work?

How long does charging at home take?

Most homes can power a 7kW charger, so charging your car this way overnight should give you a full charge.. Typically you’ll get about 25 - 30 miles of charge for every hour your car’s plugged in.

Top tips

  • Set your car battery to charge to around 85%. This means you’ll always have enough charge for a decent journey, but that also looks after the battery in the long run.
  • You can heat or cool most cars from your app. iIf you do this while the car’s plugged in, it’ll draw power from the charger rather than the battery. So In the winter, you’ll have a defrosted car that’s nice and cosy and still full of energy. When you get home in the evening, plug it in and let the process happen again.
  • Your charging connection (Type 2 charging) is the European standard meaning you can plug in at hotels and campsites across Europe.
