Are there any additional costs with Salary Sacrifice?
Our EV salary sacrifice package covers most associated costs. However, there are some situations where additional costs will turn up, including:
- Any Insurance Policy excesses
- Excess mileage charges
- End-of-contract damage charges
- Charging costs
- Parking fines, congestion charges, and other fixed penalties
In most of these cases, we’ll transfer them to you, giving you as much control over these charges as possible, so you can either dispute (where relevant) or pay. But sometimes, this isn’t possible, so instead we’ll pay the fine and invoice you later.
Insurance policy excesses
Insurance policy excesses are not included within your salary sacrifice cost, so there are additional costs that could be incurred, you can find these outlined in your Driver Handbook.
There’s also a potential increase to your insurance premium if you’re adding a young driver. But you can discuss this with your Octopus EV specialist.
Please note, if your salary sacrifice scheme does not include insurance, you are responsible for the insurance premium and any other charges that are levied by the provider you choose.
Excess mileage charges
When signing your salary sacrifice contract, you agree to a certain amount of miles per year, over the entirety of your lease.
If your vehicle is returned before the end of the contracted lease term (Early Termination), your mileage allowance will be prorated, based on how long you've had the car.
For example, if your lease is for 30,000 miles over a 3-year lease your pro rata mileage per year would be 10,000.
If you've done 12,000 after a year and are giving your car back 2 years early, you'll be charged for the extra 2,000 miles.
If you hand your EV back to us with more than the agreed mileage, you will be charged an excess cost per mile, which can be found on page two of your Driver Agreement document and/or your signed quote.
End-of-contract damage charges
We understand that when having a vehicle for an extended period of time, no matter how hard you look after it, there’ll be some wear and tear. And so all our EVs are inspected in line with the BVRLA’s (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) guidelines on wear and tear.
However, if there is any extra damage, you may be charged extra. If you’re worried about any damage to your EV, please contact the Driverline.
You can also read more about damages and potential damage charges, in our damages section.
Charging costs
Most of the time, we’re unable to pay for your charging costs throughout your lease (although, we’d love to).
So, it’s important to let you know that you will be the one responsible for paying for your charging (this is separate from any charging promotions such as Electroverse or Intelligent Octopus Go credit).
You can find all you need to know about how to charge your EV and how much it could cost you, in our EV Charging Hub.
Parking fines, congestion charges, and other fixed penalties
Don’t worry, we get it. It happens. However, if you do receive any fines during the term of your lease, you are responsible for paying them. Specific guidance on how we handle fines can be found in the fines and PCNs section.
