Private plates

Need to add or remove your private plate? Not a problem - see our guidance below:

How to add private plates

If you are currently using your plates on another vehicle, you’ll need to put your plate on retention. You can do this with a V778 retention document.

If your plates have never been on a car before or you’ve just purchased them, you’ll need a V750 Certificate of entitlement.

If you don’t have either of these documents, you can apply for them on DVLA website. Please ensure you list Octopus Electric Vehicles as the company nominee in section 2.

To add your private plates to your EV, you’ll need to send us either your V778 or V750.

Once we receive them, we’ll process the change. And, if required, send you an ev948 (this allows you to purchase the new registration plate).

You must ensure that your plates meet DVLA guidelines.

Failure to follow the above process will result in your vehicle insurance being invalid.

Do I need to notify my insurance?

If you have insurance with us, once we have confirmed your vehicle is ready to have its personal plate fitted we will notify your insurance provider of the change.

This will result in a new certificate with the updated registration being issued (if you do not receive this please let us know immediately).

If you self-insure, you’re responsible for letting your insurance company that you’ve changed your number plate. And they’ll arrange a new certificate.

You’ll need to forward a copy of this sent to us so that we can add it to your vehicle file.

How to remove private plates

To remove your plates you’ll need to inform us at least eight weeks before your vehicle is returned. This allows us the ability to return the ownership of the plates to you before the contract ends.

You’ll need to pay a removal fee of £100. This will be added to your final invoice.
