Polestar 4 Review: Electrifyingly New Chapter for Electric Cars

I’ve driven quite a number of electric cars, and very few remain memorable after a while. But from the moment I got behind the wheel of the Polestar 4, everything just felt different. This electric SUV coupé doesn’t merely tick every box for performance, design, and technology; it redefines what an EV in this category can be.

Design: A Bold Statement

As soon as I laid eyes on the Polestar 4, I knew it was going to be a fun car. Its sleek, fastback profile immediately stands out in the ever-growing sea of electric cars. The removal of the rear window may sound controversial, but I can confidently say it’s one of the best design choices ever made on a car. By doing so, Polestar has created something both beautiful and futuristic. The digital rear-view mirror further adds to the space-age vibe as it pans left or right when you indicate, helping to reveal any blind spots.

Inside, Polestar has crafted a cabin that feels like a sanctuary. The first thing that hits you is the simplicity. It’s not minimalistic for minimalism’s sake; it’s clean, spacious, and uncluttered. The large 15.4" landscape touchscreen dominates the centre console, and every control feels intuitive. There’s no guesswork involved. With the ability to stream films and TV shows via Prime Video, passing the time while charging just got far more entertaining!

Then there’s the panoramic glass roof. At first, it might seem like a small detail, but without a rear window, the glass extends all the way past where the rear passengers sit, creating a luxurious, open feel. When you’re cruising down the motorway, the extra light flooding in gives you a sense of freedom you only get with an EV like this.

Performance: Driving Pleasure Unmatched

When I finally got to drive the dual-motor Polestar 4, I realised this wasn’t just another premium electric car. This is a driver’s car. The 536 horsepower, combined with the instant torque from the electric motors, turns every tap of the accelerator into a jolt of excitement. It clocks 0-60 mph in around 3.7 seconds, and believe me, you can feel it. What really stood out was how the car maintained precise grip and confidence on winding back roads.

I was equally impressed by how comfortable and composed the Polestar 4 felt at motorway speeds. It strikes the perfect balance between performance and refinement. The dual-motor system doesn’t just supply ample power - it cleverly shuffles torque between the wheels so the car remains planted, stable, and incredibly responsive.

While I do love speed, what really won me over was how natural it all felt from behind the wheel. The regenerative braking is smooth and intuitive, and the overall ride quality rivals a luxury saloon. If you’re not in the mood to push it, you can simply enjoy a quiet, relaxed drive.

Range and Charging: No Compromises

The real-world range of the Polestar 4 is around 300 miles, which is more than enough for a weekend road trip without needing to recharge every hour. And when you do need to stop, you can go from 10% to 80% charge in about 25 minutes at a rapid charger.

Interior and Technology: Minimalism Meets Luxury

One of the standout features of the Polestar 4 is how it fuses technology with luxury. It has Google Maps built in, and Google Assistant voice commands work like a dream. If you’re an iPhone user, fear not - Apple CarPlay is also available and leverages the full 15.4" display.

Despite its SUV-coupé silhouette, the Polestar 4 feels remarkably spacious in the back, with ample room for adults, plus a generous boot. I had zero issues packing for a weekend getaway to Wales.

Another highlight is the overall build quality. The materials feel premium without being over-the-top. The seats are made from vegan leather and other sustainable materials, and they look absolutely incredible. Polestar has struck a balance between feeling high-end and avoiding any sense of trying too hard.

Safety: Confidence in Every Mile

As someone who values safety, I loved that the Polestar 4 doesn’t just offer performance - it also prioritises occupant protection. Its suite of driver-assistance systems includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera, which all boost peace of mind on every journey. The car’s proactive monitoring of its surroundings is a real plus, especially in busy traffic or on unfamiliar roads.

Final Words: Setting a New Benchmark for Electric SUVs

In short, the Polestar 4 is a breath of fresh air. It’s not just a great electric vehicle; it’s an outstanding vehicle, period. With its striking design, exhilarating performance, and top-notch technology, it’s a tough act to follow - whether you value style, driving dynamics, or cutting-edge tech, the Polestar 4 delivers in spades.

Driving this car felt like peering into the future, where sustainability and driving pleasure go hand in hand. If you want an EV that doesn’t just take you from point A to point B, but also makes every journey exciting, then the Polestar 4 belongs on your must-try list. It proves you don’t have to compromise on fun, luxury, or technology in your quest for a more sustainable future.

Polestar 4 vs Mercedes GLC Coupé

The Polestar 4 stands out as a more innovative and forward-thinking alternative to the Mercedes GLC Coupé. While the GLC leans on traditional luxury cues, with a focus on refined craftsmanship and comfort, the Polestar 4 emphasises a modern, tech-driven interior that feels both fresh and cutting-edge.

In essence, the Polestar 4 feels purpose-built for the future, highlighting sustainable luxury and innovation - perfect for those looking to switch to electric without sacrificing premium comfort.
