5 gifts for EV drivers that people actually want

‘Tis the season for hundreds of ‘the best Christmas gifts for…’ articles. Why is this one different?

We’ve put our collective heads together to come up with a few suggestions that EV drivers will actually use and enjoy. Down with long lists of novelty items that will inevitably end up in landfill; long live fun, memorable gifts that you’ll use year-round!

1. Something special: an EV road trip

Thinking of treating your nearest and dearest to something truly special this year? A road trip full of adventure, snacks, and quality time could be just the ticket.

There are many beautiful places to explore in the UK (you could spend a week touring the unforgettable Highland 500, for example), but don’t be afraid to travel further afield.

The charging infrastructure on mainland Europe is fantastic, and makes EV roadtripping on the continent as easy as ABC. Put a couple of ferry tickets under the tree and get ready for the trip of a lifetime.

It’s not the most exciting present in the world, but put one under the tree alongside those tickets to make sure you’re covered in the event of an accident.

2. For hobbyists: EV camping gear

Does your EV driver love the great outdoors? EVs with V2L technology make perfect camping companions – you can use your EV's battery to power a kettle, a camping light, a portable heater, or even an electric oven.

This means that some EVs can function just like mini campervans. Gift your EV driver an inflatable mattress (some manufacturers, like Tesla, sell mattresses specifically designed to fit their cars), put the back seats down, and enjoy a night under the stars.

If you’re feeling bougie, expand their camping kit with a portable kettle and cooking accessories. Grill? Oven? Pizza oven? As long as it’s electric, it’ll work (and be way more fun than waiting for a disposable BBQ to heat up enough to undercook some sausages).

3. For the whole family: car boot organiser

Fed up with soft toys, odd shoes, and exercise books being thrown in your boot chaotically when you pick the kids up from school?

Unfortunately, we can’t make any promises that your vehicle will remain spotless until your offspring grow up and leave home (or at least until they get their own set of wheels), but a boot organiser will make things significantly better. Get one with compartments for each family member and enjoy a tidier car and fewer misplaced items.

4. Something for the road: gift cards for major coffee chains

Occasional stops en route are a good way to recharge yourself as well as your EV. Getting a few minutes’ fresh air, a break from the road, and your favourite hot beverage does wonders for your concentration on the next leg of the trip.

For EV drivers who regularly make longer trips, you can’t go wrong with gift cards for coffee, so that they can enjoy a little treat while they juice their battery.

Remember: you can use the Electroverse app to plan your charging stops in advance

5. Stocking fillers

Ditch the novelty items – gift them something they’ll use and love:

  • Reusable travel mugs, to make your trips that tiny bit greener (and to save a little each time on charging-stop coffees)
  • Air fresheners, to keep their car smelling nice and for a tiny bit of personalisation. There’s even a Lynx Africa option, for a classic Christmas stocking throwback
  • Chocolate is a classic stocking filler – make it car-themed or create your own little hamper of goodies.
  • A good book to curl up with – we recommend The Fully Charged Guide to Electric Vehicles & Clean Energy, by Fully Charged founder and former Red Dwarf star Robert Llewellyn
