Gurjeet Grewal has been appointed our permanent CEO, following his interim period in the role.
It comes as we continue to grow rapidly, simplifying the switch to electric for drivers and businesses across the globe.
Gurjeet was one of our very first employees back in 2018, taking on the role of Director of Operations before becoming Chief Operating Officer. Over the past seven years, he has been at the core of our journey – from early start-up to one of the UK’s fastest-growing EV businesses.
Since stepping in as interim CEO in January 2025, Gurjeet has overseen a period of extraordinary expansion. This year, the number of EVs we have put on the road has grown from 27,000 to more than 40,000, supported by £1.5 billion in funding from a range of financial institutions.
He has also overseen our role in exciting new innovations. This summer Octopus launched a pioneering vehicle-to-grid (V2G) partnership with BYD, unlocking a car, charger and unlimited charging at a bundled monthly price. The collaboration establishes electric vehicles as an integral part of a cleaner, smarter energy system – putting power back in the hands of drivers while supporting the grid.
More recently we turned our sights abroad with the launch of our EV business in Germany, the first step in deploying an all-in-one EV offer at an international scale.
Gurjeet said: “I’m incredibly proud to have been part of Octopus EV’s journey from the very beginning. We’ve built something truly special – a mission-driven team that’s transforming mobility as we know it. As we enter our next phase of growth and move into different countries, we’ll continue to make electric driving simpler, smarter, and more affordable for everyone.”
Fiona Howarth, who founded Octopus Electric Vehicles in 2018 and led it through its remarkable growth story, will continue working closely with Gurjeet and the senior team on strategic partnerships and innovation.
