As part of taking an electric vehicle (EV) with Octopus Electric Vehicles, through a Personal Contract Hire (PCH) lease, we may offer you at our discretion the following offer depending on the vehicle you have selected and when you ordered it: 6 months free of off-peak home charging energy through the Intelligent Octopus Go - EV Saver tariff (subject to the terms and conditions below).

Intelligent Octopus Go - EV Saver eligibility Criteria:

• You need to be an Octopus Energy customer on the Intelligent Octopus Go - EV Saver Tariff
  • This will mean having a smart meter installed at your house, and a compatible car or EV charger that works with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariffs.

  • Once you have switched to the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, you will need to then request to switch to the EV Saver version of the tariff through Octopus EV. The EV Saver tariff is an exclusive discounted version of the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, only available to Octopus EV customers. You will receive the form to access this tariff once you have taken delivery of your vehicle.

If you cannot switch to the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, we will offer you the equivalent value of the home energy credit as Electroverse credit as an alternative.

Once you’ve successfully joined Intelligent Octopus Go - EV Saver, a credit will be applied to your Octopus Energy account as a lump sum to cover the estimated cost of your charging for 6 months in your lease agreement. This estimated figure is worked out based on your annual contracted mileage (as shown in your lease) and it assumes that you will only charge your car at home during the Intelligent Octopus Go - EV Saver off-peak window (this is currently from 23:30-5.30) or during the times that we start smart charging your car at this off-peak rate. The credit to your account will reflect the cost of charging during the off-peak/smart charging period only. These requirements help us make sure your EV is charging when energy is the cleanest and least expensive, plus when strain on grid infrastructure is at its lowest, while making sure your car is always charged and ready when you need it.

First, we calculate the car's efficiency by dividing the usable battery size by the ‘real world' range. ‘Real world range’ is taken from EV Database, and combines the predicted range of an EV in cold weather with the predicted range of an EV driving in warm weather. For cold weather, this assumes it's -10 degrees celsius with heating on. For warmer weather, it's based on 23 degrees celsius and there's no A/C on. Predicting exact range is tricky, and range will depend on speed, style of driving, weather conditions and route condition.

The average car energy efficiency equals 0.286 kWh/mile. (Or 3.5 miles of range per kWh used).

We then multiply this by the annual mileage as stated in your EV agreement and by the off-peak Intelligent Octopus Savers window rate.

If you choose a 12,000 miles/year agreement then this will be calculated as follows:

0.2857 (Car's energy efficiency) * 12,000 (contracted miles/year) = 3428

3428 * 6p (price of energy per kWh) = 205.70 (charging costs per year)

And, for 6 months it'd be £102.85 in total
